One thing that I love to do during a portrait shoot is to take fresh flowers from the garden and use them during the session if the client is up for it.
Red just happens to be my favourite colour, so I often gravitate in that direction and contrasted against a black background can create drama. Simple petunias and a stunning profile equals dramatic portrait. Recently I had the pleasure of photographing the most gorgeous basket collection designed and made by the very clever artist - Roslyn Holmes. They are currently on exhibition at the Ivy Hill Gallery Wapengo until Feb 14 2016. Check them out if you are down that way . . . I admit I get a bit of a thrill to see my work printed up large.
Here's my happy customer Sophie who popped in after her work today to collect her gorgeous portrait. Just beautiful. On the eve of my next Mother & Daughter photoshoot, I've looked back on work I shot earlier this year.
Children grow so fast - I love to be able to stop time for just an instant so they can be remembered as they were . . . before suddenly they have all grown up! We had a big, busy day in the studio yesterday, shooting Beauty Portraits for the lovely Anjelic Beauty - Nails, Make-up & Hair Stylist.
Pretty spring flowers from the garden were a feature. A very big thanks to our model Kate, who maintained her good humour throughout and still managed to have a smile on her dial til the end. Stay tuned - I look forward to sharing the finished images . . . Such fun we had in the studio recently shooting model portfolio photographs for the gorgeous Sophie.
With Jade along for the ride as make up artist/stylist/assistant we had a fabulous fun day. I wont use words to describe the beautiful results - I will let the photographs do the talking. Click on the following link to a short slideshow of just a few of the fab photographs and a couple of behind the scenes from our day. Crank up the volume and enjoy! http://www.helenokey.com/video.html "I felt quite emotional in watching the slideshow for the first time - the realisation of my girls so grown up, I almost haven't noticed it - it was amazing"
I love my job as a portrait photographer, to be able to freeze moments in time is so special. Both children were distinctly individual which led to different portrait styles for each. Click the following link to check out the short slideshow http://www.helenokey.com/video.html - so sweet! For anyone who knows this fellow, you will know what I mean when I say he is NOT your average Joe Bloggs.
One of my earliest memories of him was before he could even speak, sitting up in the highchair using his good keen eyes and pointing out flies on the ceiling for his dad to swat. A hunter from the start. And once he found his voice, again from the stage of the highchair, when he should have been eating dinner, he would entertain the captive audience around the table with jokes - laughing so much while he did it that he could barely spit out the punch line. A comedian from the tender age of two! Fast forward a few years and you've grown into a fine young man with a sparkle in your eye and a dimple in your cheek. I am proud of you - my one and only nephew. Go well and go safely on your life's adventures Matheson, and remember to come back and tell us all about it, we will be waiting to be entertained! PS If you are wondering what the secret is to his wholesome healthy look - take note youngsters, it is simply because he eats his vegetables plus gets up with the sunrise and goes to bed when it gets dark. Actually, that last part is not true but he assures me it is part of the plan for the near future, we will see . . .
